Yarra, Inner East — Melbourne
Interior Design & Render Direction
Anchored by reclaimed cream brick and raw concrete, Yarra House opens around an off-centre courtyard that draws natural light deep into its two-storey, coastal-modern interior.
The directive was to introduce the lightness and spatial generosity of coastal architecture into a dense inner-east Melbourne site, where heritage setback requirements and neighbouring brick structures defined the perimeter. The response needed to feel deliberate, not defiant — a home that earns its place in the street.
Reclaimed cream brick was selected for its capacity to age into the streetscape without announcing itself. Raw concrete and blackened steel resolve the structure, while an off-centre courtyard — the plan’s organising device — pulls afternoon light through the section. The interior palette follows: pale stone, washed linen, muted brass, and surfaces that improve with use.
