Getting started
01

How do I start a project with Heimr Studio?

The quickest way is to email us at services@heimrstudio.com.au with a brief outline of your project — what you're building or making, your timeline and any drawings or reference images you have at hand. We'll come back within 24 hours with a clear answer on fit, a sense of what we'd deliver and a quote once we've reviewed your brief.

You don't need to have everything finalised to get in touch. Many of our projects begin before material selections are confirmed or construction drawings are complete. Early is usually better — it gives us more room to shape the imagery around the project, not just document it.

02

Do I need to have all my drawings and materials finalised before reaching out?

No — and early enquiries often lead to better outcomes. If you have concept drawings, planning documents or even rough sketches, that's enough to begin a conversation. If material selections aren't confirmed, we can propose current and considered options from our own knowledge of the Melbourne design market — you choose from a shortlist rather than starting from scratch.

The one thing we do need to produce accurate renders is a clear floorplan or elevation. The more detail you can provide, the more precise we can be from the first round. But we'll always tell you exactly what we need before we begin.

03

What types of clients do you work with?

We work with boutique interior designers, architects, property developers, luxury homeowners and Australian design and product brands.

For interior designers and architects, we produce renders and animations for client presentations, planning submissions and marketing campaigns. For product brands — furniture, tapware, windows, lighting, hardware — we create hero imagery, finish variation sets and lifestyle context renders, often before the product exists in physical form.

We work with a small number of clients at a time, which means every project gets our full attention. If we're at capacity, we'll tell you honestly and give you a realistic timeline.

Pricing
04

How much does a 3D architectural render cost in Melbourne?

At Heimr Studio, a set of 3 photorealistic interior or exterior stills is priced from $1,800. Architectural packages start at $5,500 for the Core Spatial Set — which includes 3 interior/exterior stills, 2 exterior perspectives and 1 panning video. Our Full Visualisation Set, which includes 6 stills, a full walkthrough and a material showcase, ranges from $9,500 to $13,000. All prices exclude GST.

For context: a professional architectural photo shoot in Melbourne typically costs $3,000–$8,000, requires site access and can't be done before construction begins. A render can be produced before a slab is poured, in multiple angles, at any time of day — and revised without a new shoot.

We send a detailed pricing guide after an initial enquiry, once we understand the scope of your project.

05

How much does a product render cost?

Product still renders start from $1,500 for a set of 3 hero images — pre-manufacture capable, no physical sample or studio required. A Product Launch Pack (3 hero stills + 3 finish variations + 1 lifestyle context render) is priced from $4,200.

Finish variation sets — the same product rendered in multiple colourways under the same lighting — are priced from $900 per 3 colourways. Once a scene is built, adding a new finish takes hours rather than requiring a new production cycle. This is significantly more cost-effective than photography for brands launching across multiple finishes.

For ongoing content needs, we offer a monthly Brand Partner Retainer from $2,500 per month — which includes priority scheduling, a consistent visual language and a rolling collaboration agreement.

06

Do you charge for an initial quote or consultation?

No. We provide quotes at no charge once we've reviewed your brief. We ask that you share your project outline, any drawings you have and your timeline before we quote — this allows us to price accurately rather than give a ballpark that might not reflect the actual scope.

We always quote in writing, within 24 hours of receiving your brief.

07

Can I pay in instalments?

Our standard payment terms are 50% deposit to commence production and 50% on final delivery approval. This applies to all projects. The deposit confirms your place in our production schedule and allows us to begin immediately.

For ongoing brand partner retainers, invoicing is monthly.

08

Do you offer discounts for larger projects or returning clients?

We don't discount our rates — but we do structure packages to offer better value per deliverable at higher volumes. If you have a large scope, we'll build a custom package that reflects that. For returning clients with ongoing needs, our Brand Partner Retainer is designed specifically to provide consistency, priority scheduling and value for regular work.

We price to reflect the quality and time investment of every project. Reducing the rate would mean reducing the standard — and that's not something we do.

Files and technical
09

What files do you need to start a project?

For architectural renders, we need a clear floorplan and elevations. The preferred formats are DWG, RVT (Revit), RFA or 3DS — these allow us to build the most accurate 3D model most efficiently. We also accept PDF drawings, though a surcharge applies for PDF-based modelling due to the additional preparation time required.

For material references, we recommend sharing finish schedules, product specification sheets and mood boards or reference images — anything that communicates the atmosphere and material quality you're after.

For product renders, we work from technical drawings, CAD files or detailed reference photography of the product. If you're pre-manufacture, we can work from design intent drawings and discuss what level of detail is achievable at that stage.

We'll always confirm exactly what we need before production begins — nothing gets started until we're confident we have what's required to get it right.

10

What if I only have a PDF of my drawings?

We can work from PDFs. A surcharge of $350–$600 applies to cover the additional modelling preparation required — when working from a PDF rather than a native CAD file, we need to manually interpret dimensions and elevations rather than importing them directly. We're transparent about this cost upfront.

If you can request DWG or Revit files from your architect or builder, it will both reduce cost and improve the precision of the final result. But if PDF is all you have, we can absolutely work with it.

11

What file formats do you deliver?

All delivery formats are included in the project fee.

Still renders:

  • 4K UHD (3840 × 2160px) — standard for presentations and digital marketing
  • 6K (6144 × 3160px) — high quality marketing stills
  • 8K UHD (7680 × 4320px) — hero shots and large-format detail

Print-ready renders:

  • A3 @ 300dpi — brochures and midsize prints
  • A2 @ 300dpi — posters and high-quality brochures
  • A1 @ 300dpi — large format prints and exhibition displays

Animations and video:

  • 1080p HD — previews and social media
  • 4K UHD — standard video delivery
  • 8K UHD — premium showcase and LED walls

If you need a specific format not listed, ask us before the project begins — we can almost certainly accommodate it.

12

Do the renders come with usage rights?

Yes — full usage rights are included in the project fee. There are no additional licensing fees, no channel restrictions and no negotiations required. The imagery is yours to use across all your platforms, presentations, marketing materials and publications.

Process and timelines
13

How long does a 3D render take in Melbourne?

For a set of 3 interior or exterior stills, our standard timeline is 6–12 business days including two revision rounds. Motion walkthrough videos typically take 20–25 business days. Architectural packages depend on scope — the Core Spatial Set takes 12–20 business days; the Full Visualisation Set takes 20–25 business days.

Timelines begin from the point when we have all required files, materials references and brief confirmation — not from the initial enquiry. We confirm your exact timeline in writing before production begins.

If you have a hard deadline, tell us at the outset. We offer priority rush scheduling (under 5 business days where capacity allows) for a 35% surcharge.

14

What does the revision process look like?

Every project includes a structured revision round — one consolidated round of feedback, submitted at once and actioned once. This is how we maintain quality and keep timelines on track.

A revision round covers adjustments to camera angles, lighting, material selections, styling and atmosphere. We ask that all feedback for a given round is collected and submitted together rather than in separate messages — this allows us to action everything efficiently in a single pass.

Additional revision rounds are available at $250–$400 per round, depending on scope. We define this in every proposal so there are no surprises.

15

How does Heimr Studio's process work, step by step?

Step 1 — Brief. We start with a conversation — either by email or call — to understand your project, timeline and what the imagery needs to achieve. You share your drawings, references and any material selections. We come back with a clear scope and quote within 24 hours.

Step 2 — Deposit and production start. A 50% deposit confirms your project and your place in our production schedule. Production begins immediately after deposit is received.

Step 3 — Initial renders. We produce the initial renders — modelled, lit, styled and framed — and deliver them for your review. At this stage, if any material selections weren't finalised, we'll have made considered proposals for you to review alongside the imagery.

Step 4 — Revision round. You provide consolidated feedback. We action adjustments to angle, lighting, material or styling and return revised renders.

Step 5 — Final delivery. Once approved, final files are packaged in all required formats, clearly labelled and delivered. The remaining 50% is invoiced on final delivery approval.

16

Can you work to a tight deadline?

Yes — we offer rush priority scheduling for projects that need to move quickly. A 35% surcharge applies for delivery under 5 business days. Availability depends on our current schedule, which is why it's worth contacting us as early as possible if you have a hard deadline.

Tell us your deadline at the first point of contact. If we can't meet it, we'll tell you immediately rather than take on a project we can't deliver properly.

About the renders
17

Are your renders AI generated?

No. Every render produced by Heimr Studio is entirely human-made. All modelling, lighting, styling, material application and final output is done by the people who run this studio — not generated by AI tools.

This matters for two reasons. First, AI-generated imagery cannot be faithfully shaped to a specific brief — it produces plausible results, not precise ones. Second, as AI imagery floods the mid-market, the quality difference between human-crafted renders and AI output is increasingly visible to the designers, architects and clients who see them daily. Human-made is a standard, not just a method.

18

How realistic are your renders — can they be mistaken for photography?

That is the standard we work to. A render produced at Heimr should be indistinguishable from a photograph of the space or product once built or manufactured. The distinction lies in the approach to light, material and atmosphere — not just technical resolution.

We work with warm, intentional lighting rather than clinical overlit scenes. Materials are rendered at the quality and scale they'd actually be experienced in the space. Styling decisions are made with the eye of an interior designer, not assembled from generic libraries. The result is imagery that feels located and real — not digitally produced.

19

Can you render a space or product before it's been built or manufactured?

Yes — this is one of the primary reasons clients come to Heimr. Architectural renders can be produced from drawings alone, before any construction begins. Product renders can be produced from technical design files before a physical prototype exists.

This is particularly valuable for interior designers presenting to clients before construction, developers marketing off-the-plan, product brands launching at trade shows before manufacturing is complete, and stockists requesting campaign imagery before a product is in production.

20

Can you render different material or finish options for the same space or product?

Yes — and this is one of the most cost-effective things 3D rendering offers over photography. Once a scene is built, switching a material, finish or colourway takes hours, not days. We can produce multiple finish variations — different stone, timber, paint or upholstery options — within the same scene under the same lighting, so comparisons are immediate and accurate.

For product brands, we offer Finish Variation Sets — 3 colourways per set from $900 — a fraction of the cost of a separate photo shoot per variation.

For interior designers and product brands
21

I'm an interior designer. How do Heimr's renders support my client presentations?

A photorealistic render produced to the standard of your own design work does three things in a client presentation. It removes doubt — a client who can see exactly what a space will look and feel like is a client who can commit. It demonstrates your design decisions at full fidelity, rather than asking a client to interpret a drawing. And it gives you imagery that represents your actual work, not a generic CGI interpretation of it.

We work with your material selections and styling preferences precisely — because we understand that renders in a client presentation reflect on your design sensibility, not just the technical quality of the imagery. If we're proposing materials where selections aren't confirmed, we'll propose options that are genuinely current and suited to your aesthetic.

We keep our active client list small, so we're available when you have a deadline that matters.

22

I run a product brand. How can 3D rendering replace or reduce my photography spend?

For most product categories, 3D rendering is more flexible, faster and significantly more cost-effective than photography once you factor in studio costs, sample production, stylist fees and location access.

A photography shoot for a furniture or fixture brand typically costs $2,000–$8,000 per shoot and requires a physical sample to exist, access to a location and a full production day. A render requires none of those — and once the scene is built, you can change finishes, angles or context without starting again.

Specific advantages for product brands:

  • Render before manufacture — launch campaigns before tooling is complete
  • Multiple colourways from one session — no additional shoots per variation
  • Aspirational context — show your product in a considered architectural setting that communicates lifestyle, not just specification
  • Consistency across your catalogue — same lighting, same quality standard across every product

We offer a Product Launch Pack — 3 hero stills + 3 finish variations + 1 lifestyle context render — from $4,200. For ongoing needs, our Brand Partner Retainer from $2,500/month provides priority scheduling and a consistent visual language across your catalogue.

Practical questions
23

Are you based in Melbourne?

Yes. Heimr Studio is a Melbourne-based studio. Both founders have spent the better part of a decade working inside Melbourne's architecture, construction and design industry before establishing the studio in 2025. We have a genuine understanding of the Melbourne market, the materials and suppliers that define it, and the expectations of the designers and brands operating within it.

We work with clients across Melbourne and nationally for product brands with broader distribution.

24

How do I know the render will actually look like my design?

The brief. We take the brief seriously and follow it precisely — material by material, angle by angle. If something is unclear, we ask before production, not after.

We also have a background that most render studios don't: years working inside interior design, construction and product development projects before Heimr existed. We understand material behaviour, how light works in real spaces and what design intent actually means in practice. We're not interpreting your brief from the outside — we understand the industry it comes from.

The revision process is structured to make course corrections easy and efficient if anything needs adjusting.

25

What if I'm not happy with the result?

Our revision structure exists precisely for this. One consolidated round of feedback — covering anything from camera angle and lighting to material and styling — is included in every project. We action it once, thoroughly and without additional charge.

If something fundamental is genuinely not working after the first revision, we'll have an honest conversation about what's needed and find the right path forward. We'd rather get the result right than invoice and move on.

We haven't yet had a project where we couldn't reach a result the client was satisfied with. Our process — thorough briefing, considered production, structured revision — is designed to prevent problems rather than fix them.

26

Do you sign NDAs or confidentiality agreements?

Yes. If your project requires confidentiality — particularly for off-the-plan developments, pre-launch products or commercially sensitive briefs — we're happy to sign an NDA before files are exchanged. Just let us know at the outset.
